Hmmm

I'm riding a Sportive in a couple of weeks. Normally, Mrs S just lets me get on with these things but she'd really like to be at the Finish to meet me for this one*

I don't want her to be hanging around for too long in what might be fairly minging weather.

I already have Google LS set up so she could follow me on that. I also have an Edge 530 so could set up LiveTrack - which I've never used before. I'm just thinking about the pros and cons of each.

Obviously, both use the phone for transmitting location but a fully charged Pixel 6 will see me round OK. Using the Edge, I'm less sure of what it does to the battery life of both devices. I expect to take around 5 hours.

Has anyone used both and has some comparative data?

* (I'm riding to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support who have been fantastic in helping Mrs S with her treatment during Breast Cancer).

I have livetrack set to auto start on my Edge 530 and any impact on battery is negligible, I certainly wouldn’t be concerned by a five hour ride. My current phone is a Pixel 4a

Recently had livetrack on for ~10 hours on a wahoo elemnt bolt and a samsung A71, both had battery left at the end. pretty sure you'll be fine.

I've got same set up as RB up there - no probs with >5hours with both on. I've never tried, but live track also has course share, that will give a constant update on he ETA/ETF..

edit need to check the ETA bit, im sure i read it somewhere..

Another option is Glympse, great for one time sharing.

But you obviously don't need to share for the full ride. Obvious but you aren't going to finish in the first hour.
