Looking for a roval terra seatpost. Lordgun is tempting me but mixed reviews.

As they are over the £135 limit VAT etc is collected in the UK. The price for the item is only £144 and they estimate £29 VAT on arrival in the UK.

Questions:

1. Whats the likelihood of being charged the VAT/ import tax/ handling charge?
2. Does the likelihood change depending on courier used - DHL/ Fedex/ UPS/ Parcelforce?
3. If I get charged the 20% VAT/ 2% import tax it's still cheaper than buying from a big store in the UK - whats the additional couriers handling charge likely to be?

Particularly interested in peoples experience of the above using Lordgun and other similar sites.

And I know - better to support LBS but they don't have this and can't get it otherwise i'd pay the extra even with my discount and get it there.

Brexit. I can't think I've experienced or seen anything good come of since it happened...

1 - high
2 - very little
3 - varies wildly from courier to courier.

Not sure on the 2% mind, I thought it was higher (6%?)

One of the good things is we get to have this thread at least 1000 times a day*

saved a load of cash ordering from Germany as I didn't pay VAT.

I did do a search and the last info on this was mid 2021. I guess it was specific to Lordgun.

3 – varies wildly from courier to courier - varies from what to what between couriers in your experience?

less facetious responses are also welcome!

Can't help with the tax thing, because the item I bought from Lordgun (the only place I could find it), was only £60. Only £60 for an injection moulded, Spesh Levo, plastic battery guard.....

What I can say though is that their communication was excellent and I received the stupidly expensive dod of plastic 5 days after I placed the order.

Beagy x

I cant answer the import tax questions but lordgun were always a shower of shit even before brexit. I placed 4 orders with them over a period of time and I don't think I ever got a full order, containing the correct goods in anywhere near the time they advised. It was always hard work getting the issues sorted too.

Unless they have improved since then, I'd look elsewhere.

Before brexit so a while ago, hopefully they have sorted themselves out by now. Saying that, I hoped the same when I placed orders 2, 3 and 4. There wont be a no 5 though. I am a slow learner but not that slow...

I placed an order with Lordgun (previously ordered from them in Jan and was fine - in fact quicker than expected!) over the weekend for an XX1 52t Eagle cassette as it was virtually impossible to find one in the UK (one site said stock expected Feb 2023!). It was at least £100 cheaper than RRP even with shipping, but I know that I'll have to pay at least £60/£70 to DHL for import duties. Hopefully it will arrive in one piece and will actually be the right cassette as I should think returns are a nightmare! Another wonderful Brexit bonus!
