I've an older Garmin 510 and not sure if it is since last update or since riding yesterday in -8 degrees conditions, but as i turn it on, i have the usual first screen, where you can select "ride, train, race" etc. You then press the bottom right hand button as if to start your ride, it comes up "Timer Started", but then remains on that first screen instead of switching to screen giving you the ride data, distance, time etc?
Thought possibly i had locked the screens, but it is not that.
Any one having same issue or know how to resolve?
Have you tried turning it off and on again? 🙂
Not sure on the 510 but some of the others don't properly switch off when you hit the power button so don't get a clean reboot.
My 1000 locked up when I accidently started and stopped the timer before the GPS locked. According to the track I'd done something like 5000 miles in 2 seconds but it took the unit a long time to do the calculations.
There should also be a button sequence to do a hard reset to clear the device completely.

My Garmin 500 sometimes does weird things like that since I updated to the latest firmware. I think the last time it kept getting stuck on the first splash screen I simply connected it to the PC, and that sorted it. It was a lot less hassle than resetting it.
