I'm hoping there's a Garmin Guru out there somewhere that can help me.ย A while ago I bought a map download from Garmin for my Edge 1000 (French IGN).ย Unfortunately, no matter how many increasingly ridiculous hacks Garmin suggested it simply would not install on the device. (They seriously suggested trying a neighbour's wifi as if might be "different"!!
The problem I am left with is that whenever I startup the device it gives an error "cannot unlock maps." Everything works as it should, but it's a bit annoying.ย I assume there's some kind of config file that's still looking for the new map and so generates this error when it can't find it.ย Any ideas what it is, or how I get rid of this message?
thanks!
If you google DC RAINMAKER MAPS ON GARMIN, it will throw up his site which is ace for putting maps on an Edge
Plug it into a computer, then look in the Garmin folder. Any maps will be in there, as .img files. So you can figure out which ones you want, and delete the others. You could copy them onto your computer as a backup first.
If you have an SD card in the Edge, that might also have maps on it, so check what's in the Garmin folder on that.
If it's a downloaded map it'll be locked and I think that initially you may need to download and install it onto the Edge via Garmin Express.
Hopefully it you attach the Edge and fire up Gamin Express, select the Edge and click on Tools & Content you should see a Purchased tab that'll allow you to download and unlock purchased maps.
You have to bear in mind that Garmin's EULA is pretty draconian and a downloaded map is locked to one device (although I think that there are utilities that will unlock them).
Thanks, I should probably have mentioned that I never actually got the map and Garmin ended up refunding me. I've checked and I definitely don't have the map on my Garmin, nor do I want to install it.ย I just want it to stop searching for a map that doesn't exist
