I have made a route via the garmin connect website and uploaded it to my garmin as a course. Why does it try to not follow the route I have asked it to? you can see the course I just made, but it also shows another route. Is there way to make it just follow what I have asked?

It depends what route planner you use, the garmin reads them as a series of waypoints so if the waypoints aren't the junctions it will make up a route between them, I think bikehike works quite well but it's been a while since I did one. Strava looks like it might work as it puts waypoints in the right places, but I'm sure it didn't used to.
