i dont know the technical term for it but my 705 at points has been jumping to different places then jumping straight back on previous rides but its never been that bad ive felt the need to do something about it just slightly anoying as i will lose some strava segments but ive just been for a ride and i might have not bothered taking it as the ride gps after was a waste withe hardly any of the actual route i rode being picked up jumping back and forward 5-6 times in places.
this was the route i was taking
and this is what i was left with
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/328743573
the stuff to the left of the A3 i done seperate to the above ''red'' route, and the ''final decent'' part twice
but i think you can get the idea about how poor the mapping is, now i know some of it is in trees and that will make a difference but the bit on the left hand side of the a3 is really bad and thats open ground, if you zoom in with it in satalite mode you can see the discoloured grass i rode up is no where near what the gps is saying.
any help would be much apperciated thanks rob
What mapping are you using in the 705?

I think your problem is a lack of punctuation. Fix this and your Garmin will work much better ๐
Try moving it to a different point on your bars or even onto your stem. It shouldn't really make any difference but given that a quarter wavelength is around 6cm it might be possible that changing the position does something. It's free to try so it's worth the test and you can always blame me if it doesn't do anything
The map im using is openstreetmap uk but i did not think the map would make a difference to the recorded gps points ?
leffeboy, ill try chucking it im my bag for a ride tommorow and see if it comes out any better, cheers rob
and perthmtb do me a favour and read than sentance 10 times please
just to check if you pass out, cheers rob
ill try chucking it in my bag for a ride tommorow and see if it comes out any better
Excellent idea. An outside pocket of a rucksack should do very nicely. I know if I'm running with mine I have to have it in a back pocket of my shirt rather than my hand or it doesn't work. I use openstreetmap as well and it doesn't seem to cause any problems
I ask about the map as my 705 sometimes does weird straight, as the crow flies lines instead of following roads. It has been suggested this is because of an issue with the mapping rather than an inherent fault with the unit. The mapping is Garmin's own. Wondered if it could be a similar problem....
There is a "lock to road" option, make sure you're not using that when you're offroad.
Otherwise it could be broken, or solar flares.
Do you have pacemaker?
good possibility, hadn't thought of thatThere is a "lock to road" option
ahhhhhhhh i had the lock to road turned on as since ive been doing a bit of the dark side, i did not expect it to change the gps points recorded thou i thought it was just to make the map poss more accurate.
ill try without road lock on.
no pace maker, ive got a 305 aswell so ill run them together for a few rides check if there is a big difference between them.
thanks guys ๐
