!!

Killed the cage on my X.0 mech, never mind as it's a replaceable part.

BUT EVEN ON SUCH HIGH END KIT IT'S NOT AN ECONOMICAL REPAIR!! £95 for a new cage! (includes jockey wheels and spring too but I don't need those). What's the point! And why not sell just the cages?!

Same with juicy brakes - if I kill a piston, almost as well to just buy a new j3 or j5 rather than faff about with a new one (£30 only as part of a kit) and new pads etc.

Grrr.

*sigh* and relax....

juicy pistons are available as a "pressure foot kit" from edinburgh bikes.

sorry to deflate the rant - 4/10 though.

Andy, the "phenolic" pistons in Avids are well known for having the consistency of caerphilly cheese. usually the lug breaks off meaning the pads fall through the brake.

tracknicko - ideally medium cage, but long would do. Or possibly a whole mech. iain.wallaceATgmail.com if anyone can help out.

My rant is more the relative cost of spares to the new price. The complete mechs are always discounted, whereas the spares aren't. So the spares cost as much as the mech (nearly). I'd far rather* repair my X0 than buy a new X9, yet it's the more expensive option.

*performance wise they're probably the same, more for reasons of avoiding unnecessary waste etc.

Cheers for that ebay link, i'll look into it.
