Doing the Cut Gate route on Saturday. I have a basic map and directions out a guide book, is navigation straightforward enough or do I need an OS map?

Cheers

The path is very clear to follow, but even as a local I would not go without a compass and map because anything can happen up there, it's very bleak and a long way from help if something goes wrong.

Its put a lot of rain down at the Langsett end this week, it may well be a bit wet on the top

the weather forecast for the weekend looks dreadfull, the top of cut gate is the last place in the peak district i'd go on a rainy day in november.

i'd be looking for a plan B - sorry.

i agree with ahwiles,it's forecast for 2-3 ins of rain Fri-Sat,it'll be a bottomless swamp, try a loop round hayfield http://www.flattyresmtbroutes.com/HayfieldJacobsLadder.html ,this one is mostly hard surface IIRC.
