apart from the maintenance issue of 4? pivots vs one..if built up to a similar spec which bike rides better ? (particularly interested in crawling up the rocky stuff) currently have a 5 spot and although I love the grip when going up I feel I'm over biked.
I can't give you a direct comparison, having not ridden a new Superlight, but I have an Anthem X that I built frame up. I've had this bike a year and had the back end off the other day (long story, not related to maintenance but airline rules...) and the bearings were perfect. This bike has done in the region of 3000 miles including things like a soggy Relentless 24hr, a snowy Strathpuffer and so on. No need to replace them yet, and I think this is the first full bouncer I've had where the shock bushes have lasted more than a year.
In a word, it's fast. The fastest bike I've ever had- despite training less this year I've done better in every event I've been back to and I put quite a bit of this down to being on the Anthem rather than the Scott Scale I was on last year. It's fast because of that excellent suspension design- normally I run it in No Propedal mode and it's immaculately behaved- no bob, but it does deal with just about everything perfectly. It's not so keen on huge rock gardens, but no 4" bike will be. It's also really light- mine is 24lbs with XT, Stans wheels, SIDS and RaceFace kit.
I've not had a single problem with the frame. Not one. It's flawless, and I'm incredibly happy with it. I was holding out for a Trek Top Fuel but this came along first and I thought why not.
It suits me well in that, compared to a lot of bikes like this, it deal with technical situations very well. It likes technical climbs, and is a very proficient decender- to the point where I've pondered fitting a set of Pikes and going for a razz in the Lakes.
However, the head angle is steeper than a Superlight. This may be the clincher for you, but I've never found it overly steep, it gets a good balance of involvement and security for me but may not for you. It is lighter than the superlight, and while there are more pivots I've never had an issue. I don't htink it's been designed with 120mm forks in mind while the superlight has, though.
Anyway, here's mine. It's brilliant, I love it.
