I wish I could see the pictures as, at 1.7Kg, I'm imagining something like the saddle from an old Raleigh Chopper ๐Ÿ™‚

Imagine something from a 1930s motorcycle ๐Ÿ™‚

what needs fixing

The central frame (that big V shape directly under the leather) is loose at the front and has a tab you can just see that is freely rotating, I imagine it has to be located in a (now empty) square hole in the nose above the tension screw. It's not quite like more modern designs so am currently at a loss.

How much travel has it got? ๐Ÿ˜†

About 2 inches of quality travel. Massey Ferguson ๐Ÿ˜† the leather is super-thick, but yeah even so, dunno what my 'gooch' is, but daresay it wouldn't survive an explosive impact with all that metal flying about. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Used to have one of those on a 28" sit up and beg, old policemans bike. Very comfy. Something like this:

I've kind of lost touch, tbh.

I'm very much an extractor fan now.

Looks like a B190.

Don't think b190 is a triple-rail. Also this doesn't have top springs at the rear, just steel posts. It's a mystery. And what is with 'made in India'? Thought Brooks made in Brum? Niche indeed.

That's why I said looks like. ๐Ÿ™‚

The India bit also has my interest.

Love old police bikes. had a 1936 one, with oil bath chainguard, etc. Someone tea-leafed it! didnt think it was worth nicking but was gutted.

Ok this is such curio that it appears the only other picture of a saddle like this on the entire interwebs happens to be an old picture of my exact saddle! I compared the label at the back and all the marks and dinks are identical.

What I've learned:

Brooks was absorbed (via Raleigh) into Tube Investments (TI) in 1960

TI Cycles of India brands:

BSA Cycles
Hercules Cycles
Philips Cycles
Track & Trail Cycles
Montra Cycles

Think my model was called the 'Hercules' and was also named 'The Supreme'. It is certainly the beefiest saddle I've ever seen. Now how to fix it...

It'd fit on an old school BMX diameter post nicely, you're gonna have to shim it for 27.2+

looks laterally stiff yet vertically compliant.

But will it make the trails come alive?

Yep, was my first port of call, filled in the form and sent the pics. Last time I had a problem (caused by self and a stupid spanner, I must be honest) with one of their saddles they were amazing and had it fixed and returned good as new in no time at all. But this being an old curio may take some time to get a response. Fingers crossed as I'm angsty as all hell to get my buttox 'held aloft by the hands of angels' (as one recent review claims, I kid you not)

I saw this on the Fat Bikes FB page and thought of this thread;

no one seems sure what the coil shock in the frame is for.

Castrato!

Seatstays are obv designed to break off at the seattube on aggressive descents ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

*Edit doubletake: Wt* is that seat-clamp/rear changer thing?

That's a seatpost mounted shifter - obviously!

Note lack of cables elsewhere.

I think the shock is to make people go 'Oh wow, a FS fatbike! Oh.. hang on..?'

I've not actually done a real-life lol at a bike for ages (maybe the paperclip?), but that's brilliant.

That made the Baby Jesus cry & wiped out the dinosaurs. I wonder it the front tyre has rubbed through the lefty yet or it they've corrected that by a simple 4" dish on the front wheel?

Liking that saddle though - how much travel does it have - more than most 90's dh bikes i imagine?
