Choose one. I have. It's not front mechs.
Can anybody tell me in simple terms how I can work out what front mech. I need?
I've worked out (checked the website) that I need a 31.9mm clamp but what mech? Braze on or clamp. The website for the frame sells braze on clamps.
It's a Dolan Cyclocross frame and it has (for now anyway) a Tiagra triple chainset.
Thanks very much
is the seat tube just round (hence needing a mounting band), or has it got a (brazed-on) mount ?
you won't need any top-swing daftness as that's for sus frames, raised stays etc on mtbs
Braze-on literally means you braze it, i.e. heating metal till it melts together. You need one with a clamp.
to make things complicated, you can get separate clamps to use with braze-on mechs, that's what I have on my CX
I thought you;d tried CX and decided it was too much like hard work anyway? ๐

well not you, but the frame manufac.
oh and you described welding not brazing ๐ฏ
I assumed it wasn't braze on due to the lack of brazed on metal bit. Then I checked the website and they sell braze on clamps (if that's not an oxymoron), hence that element of confusion added.
Round tube. No top swing mech required, then? Thank you Scaredypants.
Jules. Tried it and preferred road amd mountain bike. CX was too between the two for me. Now my state of mind is between the two, it suits perfectly :-).
No, my mountain bike rides (as you probably know having sadly ridden with me on numerous occasions) means I pedal out to the ride start point and as you and every bugger else (frequently) choose rides that are 20 odd or more miles from home, I need something that I can get there on while retaining the ability to use my legs when I get arrive.
Going to Cannock and riding there the weekend before last was the final straw.
I is programmer, not engineer, but I know brazing invovleds metals and heat doesn;t it?

Yes. I was right in how I imagined it. not entirely sure how it differs from welding though?
Watch out for those bottle mounts too! Mine's a conventional frame, no fancy suspension or forks, but I had to get a topswing simply because the bottle cage mounts were right where the bottom swing band would go.
