Evenin' all,

I have been giving my bike a thorough clean and took the cassette off my wheel. I noticed that there is a bit of play on the freehub body.

I called Jake at Pure2 who (used to deal with service/warranty), and he advised me that it could need tightening up. From what I can see it looks like there is a 12mm ish hex key fitting inside the hub.

Is this how the freehub is removed? The last hub I serviced was a Pro2, where the freehub just yanked out.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Haven't dealt with those particular wheels, but a lot of hubs use a 12 or 11mm to tighten the freehub onto the hub body

Looks like I'm gonna have to get me a fat allen key then!

Anyone else got any experience of these wheels?

Hi,
I'm not sure about the 2's, but on the 3's you don't require any tools to remove the freebody and 1no 501 (IRC ?)bearing sorts the play out.
I've Got some 15mm adaptors and for that mater some 12mm adapters again for 3's spare..?
Cheers

Hi Posiwev,

How exactly did you remove the freehub then? does it pull off or unscrew somehow?

Hi,
Re the adapters make me an offer btw I'll have to post as I'm up North.
The freebody just pulls of the hub from what I remember, you can find the instructions easily online, however 2's maybe different to 3's?

I have the original version of these wheels and from memory the free hub just pulls off. You might have to pull off the end cap first.

Just had a look at the PDF above but this is different to my wheel.

My freehub definitely looks like it interfaces directly with the hub body. See the image:

Isn't the easiest way to remove the free hub of a Crank Bros wheel just to ride it and then take the wheel out of the frame......

.........at which point the freehub will just fall off. 😀
