As always the devil is in the detail and I have no idea what it's like to ride around there (been skiing though and it's excellent!). Covers Cervinia/Valtournenche, Pila and La Thuile.

Just thought I'd give a heads up.

aosta has some of the best descents in the alps - 11kmish of windy loamy flatout singletrack and then at the top if the pila wc track and lots of other good areas to go!

How do lift passes in the Alps work? Do you buy one pass an get access to everything, or do you buy individual lifts as and when you need them, just wondered as a lot of people say things like "get the lift to xxx, ride down to yyy, take the train to zzz, ride over to aaa, then up on the bus to bbb, back down into ccc and catch the lift up again".

You can get a pass for a day, week, season ect... you can get a pass for 1 lift up ect... a Pila pass wont cover you for Morzine for example but it does for down to Aosta I believe.

In Morzine as its part of the PDS you get a full area pass for a day week season ect... that covers you for it all.

If an area has a few lifts you will usually get them all on that local pass.

A lift pass is usually valid for a specific area.

So in the case of this offer there's probably a pass that covers Cervinia/Valtournenche, one pass that covers Pila, and another pass that covers La Thuile.

For the area there's usually a network of lifts/buses/trains/funiculars, usually well signposted and you use a map to know what covers where. For linked areas there's usually a sign warning (at the top of the lift) telling you that one direction covers x lift pass while the other covers y lift pass.

There is sometimes the ability to buy a pay as you go across many areas, or a pass which covers groups of lift pass areas. Worth it if you have a car to get about and are staying for an extended time.
