*puts on CEO voice* bearing life sounds like an end user problem to me
Do they actually prevent dirt ingress or just reduce it a bit?
Could they end up holding crap nice and close to the bearings they're supposed to be protecting?

I’ve got a Whyte G160 with chunky covers on a lot of its bearings. Can confirm the same as those Raaw owners
Cost? Most manufacturers can't even fit decent bearings in the first place.
Resistance? Could have a negative effect on the suspension due to the extra stiction.

I had a creak on my G1, turned out to be the pedals not being fully tight. Checked under the bearings while looking for the creak, there was still bright green grease like you'd find in a new Shimano mech under it, on a 2.5 year old frame.
Pretty sure Treks have had them for a while

So have Santa Cruz. I'm not a dentist.
