[Closed] Fox X2, volume spacers and air pressure

Just pondering the number of volume spacers in a Fox X2 shock.

My shock 200/57, 2018 will take two volume spacers and go up to 250psi. Surely, as the pressure drops, the number of spacers could increase. The maths isn't too difficult either.

All it really needs is to know the air volume fully extended and fully compressed and the volume of a single spacer. Now, where can I find those numbers?

I've been running more than the standard maximum (4 I think) for a solid 18 months with no issues (at 160psi) as long as you're not near the maximum pressure you should be fine. Had a chat with the guys a Mojo about it at the time and they were of the same opinion. I think after the whole exploding x2 fiasco, Fox went very conservative on the maximum recommended number which basically assumes you'll be running at 250psi and even then (I imagine) will have some margin of safety built in.

That's the thinking. I'm already at 210 psi with the maximum 2 spacers. Just wantd to run the numbers and see if 3 would be okay.

Wouldn’t overly worry about it. I think I’m running mine with 4 or 5 (at least 1 or 2 over max) at 240 psi on a 216x63 Have done since I got it a couple of years ago and not died yet. The safety margin is they used to be rated to 300 psi with 6 or 7 spacers in iirc. As mentioned above, they went overly conservative after a very small number of failures compared the the thousands they’ve sold

200 psi in my 200/50* with 3 spacer  and no problems at all even with the old exploding air can.

Now fitted with the new air can just because though there was no need for it.

*same shock as the 200/57 but with a travel limiter.
