Im a little confused here as the fox guide says to soak the foam rings in 10wt damper oil..
But everywhere else says to soak them in float fluid..

So which one is it?

Cheers

Pretty sure its the damper oil.

I tend to use the fox float fluid [pillows]. If you order the seals from fox they have always thrown them in for free for me. It seems a lot thicker than the oil I put in the legs for some reason but don't see why you can't just use the same grade oil you use in the forks themselve especially if the Fox service guide says so.

It use to be float fluid pilow packs according to service guides I'd saved but, when I last did my forks, I did notice the Fox Tech website now said damper fluid which is what I used.

I was wondering if the fox float fluid was better as its more sticky, In theory it should stay in the foam ring longer?
This might be beneficial if you never turn your bike upside down when storing it, which does lubricate the foam rings again..

I stored my bike upside down for the last 2 weeks..and lost lockout..
I had to wind off the damping completly and cycle the fork a few times to get the oil in the right places.

I contacted mojo about this when i first serviced my forks. Their response was,

'For UK conditions we say to use Float fluid as its a lot thicker and seems to hold up better with all the rain we have here!!'

Thanks for the replys.. I soaked mine in 10wt as per the fox instructions..

Surely soaking them in the fox fluid, the fox fluid would mix with the 10 wt oil over time? although its probably only a tiny amount and not worth worrying about...

With the old seals and rings I used Float Fluid as the foam rings were a fairly open non-dense foam.

When I fitted the new SKF seals they seemed much more dense and I wasn't confident the Float Fluid would soak into them so I used 10wt oil. I transport the bike and store it upside down so I also figured that using 10wt would make it more likely the rings would absorb more oil when upside down.

Are fox F100 rl 09's always noisy when compressed? mine sound like noisy springs being compressed..cant remember what sort of noise they made before i took them apart.
When they top out theres a clonk..

The service video on the Mojo website says to use float fluid which is what I have been using. Never considered using the 10wt fluid but it has now got me thinking! The float fluid does tend to stay on the foam rings pretty well within the 15hr service interval period but disappears with time after that (hence the 15hr interval I guess!)

I had a chat with one of the technicians from mojo on friday..he said it really didnt matter which oil/float fluid you use on the foam rings..
So im not going to worry about that..but thanks for your feedback guys 🙂

I did learn something else that might be off use to others..
I told the technician that when i compress the fork it was making a strange noise which sounds like a spring compressing and rubbing on something (metalic) plus i was getting a knocking noise when the fork topped out.
He asked how much i weigh, so 220lbs i told him. So 115psi in the forks.
He told me that the springs on the air spring shaft can become fatigued with higher psi which included when the bike was not in use.
Once there fatigued they can touch each other when compressed, which would explain the noise that i was hearing.
£38 posted for a new air spring shaft assembly..(Fox F100 RL 2009) Just fitted the new one.
I did compare them both, both springs were shorter and more compressed on the old one. The outter bigger spring was roughly 1 inch shorter..the inner roughly 3/4 of an inch.
The fork seems to be working fine now 🙂

Thanks Mojo 🙂

Overnight soak in 50:50 mix for us for 40's on Whistlers Bike park - all conditions.

Seals/wipers will last a 3 - 4weeks of of riding through the season.. and thats around 75 miles of Whistler bike park vertical through a season for the 1 DH bike we service logged, plus shuttle days, road trips, week in europe at the worlds etc...

Thats with zero stantion wear, so a good mix imo.

Fox fluid here. I put them in a little bag with some fluid and work the fluid in.

Got to do my 36 Van and having a bit of knocking noise so wonder if the spring has the same "problem"
