My Fox 32 150 Talas FIT RLC fork was serviced back in Feb, done quite a lot of riding on it since then, so I think I need to change the oil in the lowers.
Am I right in thinking that changing the oil in the lowers is the only thing I really need to be doing at home between services?

TFtuned do a kit for £15 - http://www.tftunedshox.com/Miscellaneous/Oils-and-Grease
will this contain everything I need?

Or do I need this kit? I'm not sure what the 10wt oil and float fluid is used for here.
http://www.tftunedshox.com/Catalogue/TF-Tuned-Service-Kits/TF-Tuned-Refresh-Service-Kits

also, does 30ml in the damper side and 10ml in the spring side sound correct?

Thanks

Just buy some 10wt oil - if you're just doing a lowers change you can normally reuse the crush rings etc.

Yep the oil volumes are about right for a FIT damper - a (little) but more is better then a bit too little.

ok, so is this all i need to be doing myself, assuming the seals look ok?

I thought that the tftuned lower lube was their equivalent to 10wt oil, but then how come they do a kit that contains their lower lube and 10wt oil?

Do seals as and foams well. No point only doing fresh oil if the foam rings are already contaminated..
Oil is 10wt and the last talas and float 120mm FIT forks I did was 30ml either side.
Float fluid is good for a wipe over bushings and Pre soaking foams in 50:50 float/10wt mix

They're sponges. Take them out and wash them!

ok, i thought it was best to leave the seals alone unless they look damaged, was just going to apply some fork grease to them..

The foam rings need cleaning and then soaking in Fox Float Fluid.

Cheers

Perfect. That's all you need unless there's a leak.
Give them a good clean before you grease them up though.
I never disturb the lip seals unless there's a problem. If it ain't broke..... 🙂

Be fairly gentle with your foam rings as they can go baggy and are a pain to refit, the newer skf seals are supposed to be lubeb with float fluid not grease like the older ones.
Fox foam rings arn't available separtly, rockshox ones of some kind may fit but a bit of a bodge as they won't fit perfectly.
Any fully sythetic 10w oil from a 'big name brand' Motul, Fuchs, Silkolene is fine for the lower legs too. 😀

how do i know if I have the skf seals?

Ok, so I'll order some 10w oil, still not quite sure if I need the float fluid, grease or both?

Usually have 4 dots on the flat part of seal and say SKF in very small letters.

Just 10wt oil will be fine and a pillow pack or 2 to mix with the oil and soak foams in. 😀

Silkolene Pro RSF Fork Oil is the same stuff Fox sell (Silkolene make it for Fox as Fox are a shock manufacturer not an oil company).

I would buy some Float oil as well and use where applicable. Its about £9 per bottle and will last proper ages so why skimp?

Cheers

Personally, after removing the lowers from the stanchions I carefully take out the foam rings, gently clean any muck off them - hopefully there's little or none. Then soak them a while in the Float oil.

Meantime I use a clean cloth to carefully clean any dirt or grime from the seals while they are still in place. Inspect them and replace if they look damaged - so far I've not had to do that.

Next I clean the inside of the lowers to make sure as far as possible old oil and any built up grime is removed.

Then I carefully refit the foam rings, refit the lowers, add the appropriate amount of any proprietary 10W fork oil through the holes at the bottom with a cooking pipette (they are marked up in ml volume) and finally refit appropriate nuts and washers. No special grease on the seals.

It is one of those jobs that is slow and messy first time you do it, but next time round it seems pretty quick and simple.

Good luck.
