I have bought a second hand Orange recently comes with a Fox Float X2. the seller said it was built up from a frame only (though the parts list is almost exactly what it comes with bought as a bike)
The shock doesnt have the 4 digit tuning code on it, which does suggest it might be an aftermarket model, rather than one specced by orange (do orange use a custom tune shock?)
I was wondering what settings people were running.
The previous owners settings were extreme. Lots and lots of compression damping meant it clattered along, but maybe they were much lighter than me. At 95kg, im running 265 psi, which is pretty high for the shock.
Anyone know what theyre running on their Float X2 fitted to a Single pivot (Orange Stage 6 or similar).
Toying with sending itoff to TF for a tune, they always do a good job, but its supposed to be "nearly new" so might be better to wait till it due a service, at least.
First port of call is see how many spacers there are in the air can.
When I had an X2 on my old Stage 6 I followed advice from a review to go with four, and it was very fast but very skittery. Not good at all.
Reduced to two and it was way better, and rode really, really well.
Can't remember my settings on the dials, but mine was probably an older version anyway.
Get hold of a shockwiz. You can hire through bike shops or eBay. I’ve found it gets you in a very good base position in relatively quick time.
the fox website has settings for rider weight. set sag in usual manner. around 30%?
X2 on a Stage 5. 85kg rider. I run about 210psi and I dont think there are any spacers. The rebound on the end of the can is full open and feels about right, more than one click seems too slow for anything other than single big hits. Cant remember the rest of the settings but they feel good most trail type stuff. Mine was also second hand and benefitted from a service from Silverfish where they put the 2024 gubbins inside. When it came back, turning the dials made a noticeable difference to the way it behaved although the base tune means I'm not in the middle of the settings especially for rebound. Very happy with it.
Ive spoken to TF, and theyve said they cant touch it till its had these new 24 internals put in, which was news to me.
A bit of digging around and searching for the serial number turns up that its a shock of a Specialized Levo actually (the dangers of second hand i guess). Might explain why it rides so badly, and therefore why the seller was getting rid of the bike. apparently the Levo has a very light compression tune
£180 for an update to the '24 internals, and apparently FoxUK will revalve it to single pivot appropriate settings as part of that service.
Now to find my Postage Box.
Thanks Gang.
