[Closed] Fork lower service

I finally plucked up the courage to service my DT Swiss forks myself after a lot of procrastination.

I removed the lowers easily, making sure to note everything. It is a lot simpler than you think.
I am preparing to reassemble, but reading the service manual, I noticed a difference. The shaft and lower on the air spring side had quite a lot of grease in there. It coated the shaft and the inner leg.
The instructions do not mention any grease, rather just the oil that lubes the bushings.
What gives? Anyone know why the previous service at a center put grease in there?

I'm thinking of just flushing out the lowers with isopropyl alcohol to get all the crap out and then just follow the instructions

Sounds like a plan. If it's the same as RS forks, clean everything with isoprop, soak the foam rings in oil, grease the wiper seals, and when together put the amount of oil they specify in the lowers.

Just very frustrating that there is a whole load of grease in the lowers when there shouldn't be

Who did them last time?

Generic, but no mention of needing to grease anything other than the wipers.

I did find a good video on DT servicing, just oil in the lowers.

Is it definitely grease rather than a sort of water / oil / dirt emulsion?

That emulsion was in the foam wipers ๐Ÿ™

It was nice clean, red, sticky grease. I shone a light down the legs, one side is oily, one side is red grease, can see it clearly on the side and bottom. Not much I can do about it, just frustrating to find something weird in there.
