Hi,
I am thinking of building up a small 14-15" hardtail mtb, (as I am a short arse) for general mountain xc use. The likes of Glentress etc. Probably based around a On-one 456 frame or something similar. My current bike is quite old and has I think 100mm of front travel, however it is small & light with a good steel frame.
I was think of a long travel fork 140mm? But I don't want anything too heavy.
What should I look for? Coil or air.
Any suggestings on travel, length and model?
It does not have to bang up to date.
Also how much difference does 20mm make.
i.e. is it better to buy a better shorter travel fork for the same money?
Cheers Iain
You don't say your budget.
But if you don't have a lot of cash, I think a secondhand Rock Shox Revelation U-turn 426, which adjusts from 100-130mm is hard to beat.
You should get a good one for £150-£170.
I have a coil Pike 426 with 20mm axle. It is quite pleasing, and was not too expensive. 95-140mm travel. My frame is a Pace RC305, but that fork would suit yon 456 fine I believe. 🙂
Hi,
Sorry I did not give a budget.
Looking for something in a sale or maybe second hand up to approx £250.
Cheers Iain
£160 posted?
I've just got a pair of these for my inbred project bike, they seemed to fit the bill nicely....
