Currently have a Ritchey Comp hset, the fork crown race is of the solid type, ie it is not a split ring; makes changing forks etc a real pain :( as Im used to the FSA / Hope units previously with split rings. Could I either cut a slot in the race making it a split ring or 2. Get hold of a split ring compatible with the Ritchey h`set?

Yeah, cut a slot in it - just make sure you file off any sharp bits.

Thanks :), hacksaw at the ready---cant think of any engineering reason too why this is not perfectly satisfactory as the split ring will becontained` with the bearing race itself

I almost resorted to this when fitting a fork recently, but got the crown ring on by heating it with a ciggy lighter, dropping on the steerer, then tapping it down using an old stem (the end the holds the bars) and mallet. It probably wont come off now.

Anyway, when I was heating the ring these words of fire appeared, in cryptic fine script, and glowed. What's that all about?
