Hi All,

My friend has been upgrading his wheels. His back wheel hub is unidentified (cup & cone). It's for a 9 speed cassette but he wants to fit a 7 speed (using his old parts to get by). He need a spacer to complete this job.

7 speed cassettes are usually 350mm in size but his is a bit oddball at 300mm.

Has anyone got knowledge of what to do?

All help will be very appreciated.

I'd guess you mean 30 and 35mm width, so if his cassette is only 30mm then his indexing won't be working anyway. Is it possible he may have a 9 speed cassette with 2 missing sprockets? Measuring the gaps between the teeth and comparing them with a known cassette may help shed some light on the problem, 7 speed has a 3mm gap, 8 speed has 2.8mm, not got a 9 speed here to measure, but i'd guess at the 2.6mm mark.
