[Closed] Fitting a Reverb Stealth in a 'non-Stealth' frame?

I like the idea of the Reverb Stealth, with no cables flapping about.

I am thinking about fitting a Reverb Stealth to a 'non-Stealth-ready' frame, and drilling a 5mm hole in the bottom of the bb shell. The hose will then exit here and be cable tied on to an existing cable outer that runs along the bottom of the downtube.

Thought please (it will be an alu bb shell).

Thoughts...

Check hose length and frame size as this is a long routing

You might struggle to get the hose to pass the BB/crank axle - check inside BB shell for clearance

Hose will exit frame at 90 degrees, in a location vulnerable to rock strikes

Hole won't affect frame strength. It may also allow any collected water to run out of the frame.

Bottom of the BB means it would stick out & down and maybe catch on rocks/twigs/overgrowth. If hole was rotated around toward downtube the exit would be better but is that area subject to higher stress as its nearer the weld ?

also you'll have to try to avoid the hose hitting the cranks axel as this would rub on the hose.

What frame is it? why not drill out the lower bottle cage hole in the seat tube and use that? then route the hose around to the down tube?

How will the bb fit into the frame if the reverb hose is in the way?

I'm having the same thoughts but was planning on coming out the bottle cage boss. Are the stealth posts available yet?

I think it will work fine. If you are using a shimano hollowtech BB or similar then there is space between that and the bb shell for the hose, and if you route it behind the axle then it can exit the shell at a nice shallow angle towards the front (if the hole is drilled at that angle).

I might alternatively drill the hole in the front of the seat tube about an inch or two from the bottom if it was a steel frame, but probably wouldn't risk that in aluminium.

I've been thinking about it but cannot risk jeopardising my frame warranty

Any thoughts?

You'll have to leave a lot of spare hose so you can remove the seatpost, or be disconnecting the cable/hose at the lever end (or removing the lever?). Seems like a lot of faff to me.

In fact, how do they take car of that?

Seems like a lot of effort for no reward (other than cosmetic)

Ive left the trail via bushes lots of times and have not managed to catch the hose.

Thanks for the all the replies.

The frame is a Scott Genius carbon, so drilling the downtube is not an option! The front mech cable follows an identical path to that proposed and I've never had an issue with that being snagged.

It's 2-fold why I want the Stealth - I don't want to run a shim (yes I'm sure it would be fine but don't want to do it!), and it's only the Stealth that is currently available in 34.9mm. But I also like the idea of not having the hose running up to the top of the post.

My thought exactly.
What's the diameter of the hose? Even if it's a carbon frame, the inserts for the cage bosses won't be, so it might be possible to drill those without touching the downtube.
My only concern would be the near 90deg angle you'd have to turn the hose through to fit it out there.

Has Cynic-Al tried anything like this, perhaps with carbon fibre stuck together with duck tape??

The bottle cage threads also double as cable guide threads, so that's a non-starter! (good idea though)

Done this to an alloy Fuel EX. Only required minimal filing to increase the hole size. I don't think the hose is much at risk, I've routed it up the side of the downtube. Only a direct strike would cause and issue. My chainring would die before the hose.
