Brand new hero session, brand new SanDisk memory card. Came home and half the files are corrupted. Can't play them using the app on phone or tablet. Exported them to try and use QuickTime and still nothing.

Half of them are perfect. The camera appeared to be starting and stopping normally.

Is there anything I can do to rescue the knackered files? Or is the camera going back to Currys?

Just a thought, how big are the files. If they're chunky it might just be the devices struggling to play them?

Which card model and speed?
What format/resolution were you filming in?
All firmware up to date?

Try vlc normally plays more stuff a little better and especially the big stuff. Have you tried importing them into go pro studio?

Thanks for the swift responses. I'll have to check all this when I'm back at home.
From memory shooting at 1440, protune enabled. Have not tried importing them on my MacBook yet.

Memory card is definitely fast enough I looked them up and bought it specifically.

The higher resolution don't play on the app (version depending) the go pro site tells you and I think protune is another no for the app too

Thanks for that. It would be helpful if the app carried this info instead of a corrupt file message. At least there's some hope. I'll get back after I've been home on the proper computer.

I'm back at home now on the Macbook. I still have lots of files that are totally unresponsive. They have filenames and sizes but no thumbnail, just a quicktime MP4 logo. The ones from the first half of the ride are fine and the very last clip I shot. It just went to pot during all the best bits!

They won't play on Quicktime and I can't import them via GoPro Studio or iMovie.

Any ideas or just write them off?

I stopped using sandisk cards after getting a lot of failed clips. Bought Lexar ones instead. You probably can't save the corrupted clips.
