[#13536267]

after 48 years of cycling, all without any padded underwear, i am now the proud, but painful owner of a annoying saddle sore.

no idea why, nothing has changed position wise, trusty reliable saddles on both bikes.

thing is like a welt rather than a boil. possibly 2'' long raised welt right where the saddle widens after the nose on the right hand side.

any ideas, cures or help greatly appreciated.

Are you sure you haven't just sat on your penis? 😀

Sorry, can't offer helpful advice.

Riding in another heatwave, sweating a bit more, causing more friction than usual?

Almost a half century without a saddle sore, I'm jealous, your arse must be made of leather

Yeah likely just cycling in hotter conditions I'd have thought, especially if using something like cotton under-shorts

Warmer weather, body getting older, skin thinner, more brittle etc

I got something similar on day 1 of a 3 day North York Moors 200 miler where the edge of my saddle/cycling shorts pad met, very painful and no doubt heat related. For reference I was using chammy cream but not in that area.

I get the same kind of welts where the silicone grippers are on my kneepads on hot days too.

My solution in hot weather is not wearing cycling shorts as all that manmade material just adds to the heat and different kneepads. And Sudocrem post shower 🙂

This happened to me in the sense that I also spent years road cycling and used to do some pretty big distances and ride a lot more regularly than now- and never once had a saddle sore. I thought the whole thing was a myth created by the chamois cream industry or something.

Anyway, despite not changing anything and actually riding less regular and much shorter distances now I randomly got a saddle sore maybe a few years ago and now have had several- I wouldn't say regular, but pretty commonly. No idea what changed. Without going into too much detail, I actually suspect it may be the same one, repeatedly that goes away and comes back.

I have found no miracle cures other than Sudocrem seems to speed up the whole process and gets rid of them reasonably quickly.

If you use the turbo trainer at all then I am also told a separate aimed just at the saddle is a huge help as the turbo trainer is quite bad for them.

If Sudocreme is not doing it, try 3 antibiotic cream over the virtual counter from the US. I buy it via Amazon (hold your nose) and it shifts stuff in a couple of days Sudocreme doesn't.

As for why, if nothing has changed in you, your set up or execution, you'd imagine it's heat related as the only other variable left.

yeah, I went for an hour or 2 out in one of the hottest days last week and ended up sore. My partner referred to it as a "pimple"... So I squeezed it and put Germolene on it. Is ok now 🙂

Your poor partner 🤢 He/she deserves a medal...

Yeah, pimples and infected follicles/ingrowing hairs plus the skin just being flayed off ya bum for no particular reason. The joys of cycling 🙃

She has a medical background. Has seen far worse than a tiny pimple on my arse 😀 I didn't let her see me squeeze it though. Don't want to kill the magic completely 😎

In my experience saddle sore are often stress related. That means all stress, not just localised physical stress. So the answer is take measures to prioritise recovery and de-stress.

Move to somewhere with a colder climate?

If she has a medical background I’m half surprised you were able to stop her having a go at it
