I didn't think you were meant to grind and polish the spindle.

Or alternatively

You want to get that sorted on the warranty.

Mr Shimano harnessed the power of Teh Internetz to find out about your mutilation of his fine product, and has now put a curse on your workshop.

Do you know how many man-hours his minions put into styling and then finishing those top-end cranks, only for you to grind and polish it all off? How very dare you ๐Ÿ˜‰

Means polished up and granny ring holesndrillled through

Failed in an unexpected mode though considering the mods

Actually the beauty of Hollowtech is that you can put another tube down the centre as a repair.

Get a very tight tolerance tube, heat the existing tube, freeze the repair tube and the allow the temperature to stabilise.

Then simply make sure you have a friend with a camera and who knows how to upload to YouTube standing by for your first ride.

And remember with this repair YMMV as I believe they say.

I didn't!! All that I did was to grind off the Big ring holes and polished the arms ;-(

Not to many pies, its pure power ๐Ÿ˜‰ Should have had a power meter on them! The King BB Exploded too but managed to find all the bearings and rebuilt.

Did you hold the spindle in a vice while polishing? that is a very random looking failure

Did you get them installed by a qualified mechanic?

No they were fitted with a rock then repeatedly jetwashed until failure

Either that or water got in down the seat tube and caused the damage.

Shorter cranks and you would not have had the problem... ๐Ÿ˜†

Shame after the work of polishing up etc.

The cranks committed suicide because the bike they were fitted to wasn't niche enough?

The bottom bracket was part of the suicide pact too?

Stu, fitted this afternoon so no!
IGM maybe! They were fitted to my Jones and not the IF so just maybe they were sulking!

Maybe they exploded because there isn't a 29er wheel to explode.

"You've neeeever seen a salad!"

Non-niche interface issue between cranks, BB and chunky wee legs.

Pretty shocked by this... Remember getting a set of M960's when they first came out, and thought just how strong they were compared to everything that had gone before. Then the M800 Saints and the M760 XT's came out with the same axle, and well... The Saints got abused by everyone and nobody could break them! I've bent a crank arm on some M760's before, but not the axle...

Very odd!
