Hi I decided it was time I builds bike myself. But not sure what fork or gearing to run. Frame is 2016 Dartmoor primal
26" wheels (already have) frame says 130-160mm forks.

Gearing ahhh only used 3x so not much idea of 1x ect

I ride local bridleways very flat and few trail centres(dalby guisburn) odd dales trips

So what are peoples suggestions? Budget is around top end £300 for each.

Try and go 1x10. You will save plenty of cash compared to 1x11. I can recommend the Zee 1x10 shifter and I think CRC have them cheap at the moment. Then just get a narrow wide front chainring in your chosen size and spend whatever's left on rear mech/chain/cassette. Whatever spec level you can afford. Depending on the type of riding you do, you probably dont need a clutch mech if you have the narrow wide chainring. Personally, I always forget to put the clutch on mine, and have never lost a chain (but without a narrow-wide ring, it falls off every ride).

As far as forks go, i can highly recommend X Fusion if you're on a budget. I think they still have a few 26" versions around (Slants)?? Otherwise, try a 27.5" version. Personally, I wouldn't go more than 140mm forks on a hard tail. For me, it just feels too unbalanced. But there will be plenty on here who disagree and love a long travel hardtail. If you end up going for 27.5" (but 26" wheels) you wouldn't want to run 160mm forks. This might steepen the head angle and raise the BB too much.

Seeing as the frame will take 27.5 wheels then it makes sense to buy 27.5 forks ie pikes/350/34-36's depending on your brand preference...then its just a matter or rebuilding your existing hubs (if theyre any good) onto larger rims and tyres in the future.
Personally, regarding groupset id look at the new slx 11spd which if available when you come to buy...should work out similar in price to 1x10....if not then the xt 11spd gearset is similarly priced to the xt 10spd stuff with the exception of the cassette.

Okay ill look into the gearing as I was going to buy the whole lot but ill look into the 1x 10 or 1 x 11 stuff.

Fork wise I wasn't quite sure if I could put a 27.5" fork on to the 26" wheels?
I had looked at the X fusion velvet forks which can be used for both. I've got newish good wheels (arch ex on SS hubs) so not changing them for a while.

Manitou Mattoc fork.

Go 1 x10 gearing using a Suntrace MX3 cassette to give you a good range without stumping up for 1 x 11 stuff.

The only thing that'll happen using 26" wheels on 27.5 forks is that your bb will be slightly lower to the ground so if you ride rocky terrain there is more chance of pedal strikes.
Do you have any kit already to put on the frame or are you starting from scratch? My 1x11 comment was based on you starting from nothing

Other way around, BB will be higher by a small amount as the a-c length of the forks will (assuming all else is equal) be more. You can compensate by running slightly less travel. E.g. I ran my 350crs at 150mm to give same a-c length as a comparable 26" 160m fork.

If using 26" wheels in 27.5 frame then yes you correct BB will be lower.

So I've been doing some shopping!!? Got a Xfusion velvet fork at a good price. Seat post and clamp from Superstar in a sale and also gear kit and BB from Uberbike in there bank holiday sale. So only thing I need to get is drive train. Is a bundle/groupset or do individual bits work out cheaper (1x11 I think)
