👿 Bah, its proving ****ing difficult trying to get a room on my own for one night only, unless I want to pay a fortune in a hotel.

Any tips? And no, I'm not staying in the youth hostel unless I absolutely have to. Train tickets are already booked so don't want to change!

Oh, and posted in the bike forum because I'm trying to get a couple of days biking in 🙂

The hostels in the lakes are really quite nice to be honest- I'm sure you'd be fine (speaking as someone who hates hostels with a passion).

Ambleside youth hostel is a damn sight better than a lot of B&B's I've stayed in mate.

Another vote for Ambleside YHA, nice place. Good facilities - bar, restaurant, lounge, internet. Right on the lakeshore with nice views. 10 mins walk into town. They have private rooms as well for a slight premium if you're really dead set against sharing.
Better cafes, shops and restaurants in Ambleside than Windermere IME.

Its not the quality of accommodation, its getting a decent night's sleep when you're sharing a room.

EDIT - Just saw James' post. Is it 10 minutes from Windermere or Ambleside? Will give them a call at lunch.

10 min walk from Ambleside YH into Ambleside town centre.
From Windermere station it's 10-15min ride along the main road to the YH but there's a cycle lane for most of it.

try laterooms:

You'll laso get a bete deal if you stay a little outside of windermere, but ambleside will probably be just as expensive/difficult to find a place.

Found www.golakes.co.uk to be quite helpful. Got myself a single room in Windermere, one night, for cheaper than the YHA. 😀

All I need now are a couple of kick ass routes and for the weather gods to play nice next weekend!

Camp at Hawkeshead or the Anchor BnB in Ambleside. They do single rooms and bike friendly.

Ring the windermere tourist information office, give them your details and requirements, sit back, relax and wait for them to ring you back with a room. 60% of the time, it works everytime...

Ride up to Staveley and visit wheelbase, magic routes from there. They also have some cheap route maps or take your own and get the guys to mark it for you

get ferry over the lake to Claife hieghts etc

sfb/bogtrotters route list http://www.bogtrotters.org/list_routes.php none better

try offroad adventure online. ride the lakes.
