They've got polaris xc gloves at really cheap prices, but I've not used them before - are they OK?

Bought my first road bike from them about ten years ago. Lovely people. They talked road bikes to me (then a ragged arsed 20 year old student who was struggling to get his head around not having a granny ring) for ages over tea and shortbread biscuits.

Stayed open an extra hour to let me test ride titanium bling machines after a trek out from London. Of course I bought one...Great shop. Haven't tried postal.

After finding a swimming wetsuit on the fatbirds website that according to the website was in stock for £169, I then rang up the shop to check that it was available. The man in the shop went away and checked to confirm it was in stock and put it aside for me.

I needed a wetsuit that day, as I had left mine in London. So I drove 30 miles to their shop to try it on and buy there and then.

When I got there I found that the wetsuit available was the display one. It had clearly been used as the display one for many years was almost completely worn through on one shoulder where it had been on a hanger, had been exposed to the sun, had a tear at the back and was in terrible condition. It fitted very well but there was no telling whether it would last for even one swim.

I explained my disappointment to the man who said he could order one in. He then suggested that perhaps I could get a "hefty discount" on the display wetsuit. So he spoke to the manager, who was within earshot. Without turning round from rearranging the shoe display, he said that I would be able to have it at cost price. The salesman then looked on the computer and found cost price to be £120. I could not justify paying that amount of money for a sub standard product.

So I left with nothing.

Is still find it hard to believe that a major online (road bikes mainly) is in my home town across the road from my parents back in Hunstanton. The shop was a Austin Rover garage when I was growing up.
I've only purchased a few low value items over the counter but I've only heard good things.

Ordered some forks on Wednesday, they turned up on Thursday. I hadn't selected express delivery or owt, just the standard free service. No complaints here 🙂

So I left with nothing.

Personality wise maybe. But at least they tried to help...

Ordered some shoes from them earlier in the year. Very reasonable price and extremely speedy postage. No complaints here.

They really helped me out with a Dura Ace road front mech - took one off a display bike so I could buy it and there and then as it was needed that day.

Great story scsallen, thanks for sharing.

Personally I've found them to be very helpful and good value. Have special ordered stuff for me from the states that was low value and high hassle-factor, with great customer service. My only criticism is that their team riders are too good, and beat ours more often than I'd like.
