I’m in short term need to use my 29er on the road

Don’t really want to buy new wheels so thinking some narrow/faster tyres

Any suggestions?

WTB say you can go down to 55mm on these. I can't find an ertro recommendation for a rim this wide though (which, if they do one, I think ought to have air pressure guidance too)

There's some fat slicks like the thickslick but they tend not to be all that cheap.

55mm

2.1"

I've got Spank Oozy's with 30mm internal width, not sure I'd go down to 2.1". Happy with 2.25" however Specialized Slaughter... no it's actually a Maxxis Minion SS 2.25". 2.1" does tend to be a size which comes smaller I think (in my experience with 26/27.5 tyres). Tends to be a noticeable difference between 2.1" and 2.25" tyres.

Think rolling resistance due to tyres is most noticeable with the rear tyre, so maybe stick with what you've got for the front and get a Slaughter or Minion SS for rear.

You want a hard compound too.

Schwalbe Big Apples 29x2.15

May be cheaper elsewhere

Actually scrub that, I used to commute on Hutchinson Cobras, brilliant tyres for road/light xc.

Winstanleys have Big Apple's 29 x 2.35 for £20.

If you can fit them, I see Jones is using V tyre Speedster: 29 x 2.8's on his LWB commuter/ tourer. Seem hard to find in the UK though.
