If you watch it in slow motion, you can see that he was leaning down, his hand catches a spoke and hand and wrist get pulled into the fork, jamming the wheel.
Yeah it's one of those things you'd usually laugh at a mate for doing (as he gets up looking sheepish) but he's been really unlucky with the injury, hope he recovers quickly from it.
