Well? how much harm does it actually do? How does it affect fitness levels & why? Is no alcohol the best policy? Little & often OK? How many more questions can I ask on this topic?

a sure sign of the effects of too much alcohol is excessive use of a question mark when posting ๐Ÿ˜‰

I thought excessive alcohol was mandatory for single speed events. ๐Ÿ˜†

It totally ****s you up. Last year was my first year of university, first term I did alot of drinking (out at least four times a week) and alot of riding but always struggled, my fitness just didnt increase at all. Second term I stopped drinking quite so much and my fitness got alot better surprisingly fast. I now dont really drink at all, every so often I'll have a big night but the hangovers just feel even worse ๐Ÿ˜€

I've extensively researched this ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway - enough booze to give me a hangover [8 - 10 pts Guinness] & I will be absolutely useless for 3 days
so as long as you don't drink for 3 days before an event/big ride, I reckon you'll be fine ๐Ÿ˜€

As far as I remember (from the rare times when I wasnae pished!) the acetalehyde component of bevvy is a very effective muscle poison and obviously has an effect on exercise. On the bright side, aerobic activity helps to flush it from the body more quickly- so going for a post hangover ride can only be a good thing.
