Neighbour's daughter has joined local mtb club.  Been told they need lights, though it's only for the next few weeks; club is after school and moves indoors over winter (turbo etc.).

So: she needs something to see her through.  Doesn't need fancy, can't justify expensive, and needs to be deliverable in a few days (<1 week).  Club leader has said 1500 lumens as a guideline. She's beginner level ( Glentress blue) so isn't going to be shredding it.

It's years since I bought anything - so well out of touch.  (Hope LED Vision 2s still going strong).

Suggestions appreciated - thx.

I’m currently riding with one of these and a lezyne macro duo as a helmet torch, gets me round my 2+ hour night rides without any trouble (so long as I keep the lezyne off it’s brightest setting)

I guess it depends what the budget is but there was a thread about the bikehut 1600 lumen one from Halfords recently and people generally seemed pleased, especially for £50. Not used one myself though.

1500 lumens is very very bright, unless they are taking into account participants who will buy cheap Chinese lights that claim much higher..

I've got a cat eye v500 and it's just as bright as my 'insert random high number' lumen solar storm. In fact I rarely use it on full strength, the lower beam setting is plenty good enough most of the time.

I suspect that might be part of it.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.  These are in the right ballpark price wise, will pass on.

Cheers.

How about a pair of those torches that are on Amazon / eBay and stick one on the bars and one on the helmet. Run off AAA batteries and you don't have to worry about chargers. Or just get a full package including charger for £10 on eBay. Will be with you Thursday.

@sfinnie

I have a brand new unused solarstorm X2 here I'm never going to use.
Perfectly good enough light for Glenress night riding.
I'm not very far from Edinburgh.
Message me if you want it
