[Closed] eBay question, buyer with 0 but a confirmed PayPal address

Should I be worried, the buyer of my bike has 0 feedback but has a confirmed PayPal address.

I’m posting using paisley freight with insurance.

Take loads of pictures in the packing process and hope he just wanted a clean sheet on eBay?

Anyone had any experiences, am I just being paranoid?

I personally wouldn't, but sounds like I'm even more cautious than you. 🙂
0 feedback and a presumably fairly expensive item.....
I've cancelled bids with bidders feedback less than 5.
Hopefully you'll be fine though.

Every one has to start at zero, normally ok but make sure the shipping method you use is covered by seller protection (as you should for any expensive item) I've given a few buyers their first positive feedback.

If they hadn't confirmed their Paypal address it would be a complete non starter but getting feedback from buying a load of cheap things before buying your bike wouldn't really make them anymore trustworthy.

My general rule on eBay is to only sell things I can afford to lose if I ever meet a scammer. I sell bikes as collection only and get them to sign receipt of bike collected.

Sorry can you advise what are the risks?

Hmm I wouldn't sell a bike on ebay via paypal, unless the buyer came to collect and paid cash, or organised his own collection and paid cash. There are umpteen horror stories on here and elsewhere of sellers doing all the right things and still getting stung.
Can I ask a serious question OP, if this sale fell through would you be gutted?
If the answer is yes does this mean that
a) you got an excellent price for it?
b) not much other interest?
c) You can't sell it locally?
d) you really need/want the money?

Because all of these will cause you to increase the risk you are prepared to take.
If you can't afford to lose it, don't sell it this way.

I’ve just sold a bike for £800 on fleabay. I used paisley but paid the extra 50 for insurance.
I wouldn’t have posted it to a zero feedback seller though. I auto cancel sale if they have below 10 unless the contact me first.
This suited me as I wanted the money paid straight into PayPal.
If they have a confirmed PayPal addy you should be ok but make sure you pay the insurance.

So I would not be gutted if it fell through.
eBay had £1 selling fees so it would not cost so much with the PayPal fees.
I googled the buyers name and found some club name and results, I need his contact number for paisley freight, so I took the opertunity to as him why a 0 rating. He’s just turned 18 and for the first time not using his dads account(he gave me his user named) he also after asking if he rode with a club gave me the club name that matched the one I found his result attached to, as a junior, so age matches up too.

So like Fooman says “everyone has to start sometime”

After the contact this morning, I’m happier to send it now. Still a risk, but happier.

Sounds very risky to me if your accepting PayPal as payment. Opening yourself up for item not delivered claims (signature is not the same as proof of postage/delivery from a proper service).

Doesn't sound risky to me. They cannot claim not delivered as it is collection only so how would it be delivered? They cannot claim they have not collected it as I have proof that they did.

Ok, carry on. It's a known way of scamming sellers.

I got stung with Paypal/collection/chargeback only on a large radial saw. Thankfully had a string of emails and I proper kicked off about it. Still took 75days to get my money back.

Collection=cash only

But even with collection only it alwasys seems to make you pay with PayPal if you use bin.
I remember a bloke from eBay was on tv advising you not to accept PayPal if collection only but it always makes use it.

Ok, carry on

Thanks, I've only sold £40,000 of items over 18 years so may know what I am doing...

So it was all ok in the end, the buyer was just 18 and before had used his dads account.
After giving him his first positive rating he was very happy.
