I did it a couple of years ago (away at work last year). The 40 miles was a bit of a struggle. The first section was a dash around the forest then a long loop over the local moors, many tracks that are not normally rideable (not bridleways), then back into the forest for a lot of the more technical trails.
Lots of smiles, and as it isn't actually a race, nobody gets bothered about overtaking or slow pokes on the climbs.
Only concern is that it's my final weekend at home before heading off to work on the ship. I live in hope that the stiffness will have subsided before sitting on a plane for many hours.
Ah yes, there's the 66.6 mile option this year. Probably a bit too much in one day for me...
