We're off to Aviemore at the weekend for a week, and I'm planning on taking my bike.
I've had one injury after another recently so haven't been out more than twice this year. Consequently my fitness is very near to rock bottom.
Does anyone know of any nice 5-15 mile rides in the area? GPS files would be fantastic. Is it best to just pop into Bothy Bikes and ask?
Wait for Scotroutes to pop in to the forum, he'll know cos he lives there.
Bothy (in town) will be able to give route advice and sell a map or two with highlighted options. There's so much for all levels you won't be disappointed.
TBH any of the Rothiemurcus stuff will be fine for low fitness (but keen) - up round towards Loch an Eilean, Cainrgorm foot bridge, Piccadilly. Once you get on the trails, you'll feel 100% better - believe me! it's all such nice riding too, usually well drained and pleasant - excursions can be taken at any point or none along smaller tracks.
Out towards Ryvoan / Glen more would be option too, but if you're worried about fitness then maybe not up to full-on round trip to Nethy.
There are loads around Loch an Eilean. Loch Gamhna, Speyside Way to Boat of Garten and then Loch Garten paths. Also Rothiemurchus. Certainly popping into Bothy Bikes would give you some pointers. Also buy a Landranger map and a highlighter and just mark up stuff and you wont go far wrong.
Here's 13 miles from yesterday. Lovely wee gentle loop. Pretty much flat.

The spin out to Loch an eilein and then towards Loch Morlich has loads of options for cutting back to Inverdruie or extending out past Morlich and beyond. Very easy navigation.

Aye - lots of wee daunders available without turning it into a mega adventure. The great/strange thing about Aviemore is that you can ride for quite a while without doing massive amounts of climbing too.
From Aviemore it's an easy ride to Rothiemurchus from where you can do the Glenmore/Loch Morlich/Loch an Eilean circuit. Glenmore has Cobbs cafe and the beachside cafe if you want a break.
If you're feeling a bit fresher after that then a spin up to Loch Eanich can be recommended. It's a long, gradual climb (not that you notice much) but a stonking descent back to Rothiemurchus.
You can go north out of Aviemore on the Speyside Way towards Boat of Garten and play around in the woods near there. BoG has a couple of decent cafes too.
PM me if you want more detailed routes/GPX files or Bothy will always keep you right too.

See, told ya.
*wonders if the cake shop is open*
Not on a Monday or Tuesday.
On these days, the Mountain Cafe presents a reasonable alternative
