What time do you morning atheletes go to bed?
Don't give yourself the time to talk yourself out of it. Switch off the alarm, get dressed, and get out. Thinking "i'll just sit here for a minute first" is the first step in rolling over and going back to sleep.
The night before an early ride I try & be in bed by 10pm. Most other nights it's more like 11pm. I also have a couple of young children so sleep is often disturbed once or twice overnight.
Calling it "running" helps.
I've no desire to go "jogging" ๐
I've got to agree with ritchiethesilverfish... It makes a big difference if you have someone waiting for you.
Swimming works for me - takes the weather excuse out of the equation, also it's nice and gentle on muscles that have just done nothing for the last 8 hours (tryed running in the morning, didn't work for both of the above reasons.
Defininetly get kit ready the night before, and get up and get get ready as soon as you hear the alarm - the instant I give myself time to think, then its all over!!
Also it really is a good feeling to come out of the pool exercised, refreshed, and totally ready to take on the day!
Work day timings for me:
Alarm at 5:30
Coffee/read until 6:00
Commute to work (12 miles each way) at 6:45
Bed 23:00 (+/- 30 minutes)
I always been a quick waker (that's only a n away from something else), as soon as the alarm goes I'm awake, none of this 30 minutes to wake up rubbish. I only have a coffee because the wife needs something to wake her up.
Still nothing from juiced?
Did s/he get up?
Did s/he go for a run?
Is s/he still running? ๐ฏ

I'm certainly no athlete but I try 10.30 to be up by 6.30. 8 hours seams to be the minimum I can operate on, friday morning swim coaching is so bad I'm not a fan of swiming at the best of times let alone at 7.30 after cycling in the rain then being told that the main set will be 1500m flat out. It was hard for me at first being a lazy student type but I just got into a routine and stuck to it. Now being on holiday that has gone out of the window so I imagine it will be difficult to get back into it.

We got a new dog. That will be an hours walk/run at 6am thanks ๐ฏ
It was a bugger at first, but after a month it's quite nice. Certainly feel better for it.
i was getting up to go riding (on the road) at 5am most days during the week for about half of last year and do want to start it up again but it is so hard to find the drive. (also now i have a little bundle of trouble at home its a bit harder to get out as often, unless i creep out the house like a friggin ninja.)
i think if you're training for something in particular or if you have a crazy co-rider to go with then its a bit easier.
also helps to focus on how good and pleased with yourself you'll feel when you get back after the ride. i used to feel good all day after a morning ride!
Despite not being a morning person AT ALL, and loving my bed, that's the only time I can motivate myself to run. I'm upping my mileage at the moment, so shifted to evenings, and I've had to switch back already, as I just can't be arsed after work. I think the two motivating factors are that the dog has to go out anyway, and the smug, self-satisfaction of knowing you've done your exercise for the day!
Do it with a mate, then one or the other of you will make the other come. I've just taken up boxing with a friend and when I/he doesn't feel like it, you still have to do it so get on with life.
if you are a fattie. I suggest early morning pushing trolleys at ASDA. Plenty of exercise. Find one with a big car park. Get paid as well.
Basically, if u want to exercise, do it. You know what to do.

If I'm going to be up for a ride at 5 then I'll make sure I get to bed quite early, say midnight, maybe even 23:30 if I'm particularly knackered.
This is a good question! I get up an hour earlier to run before work, and started this last year in order to lose weight. I lost 2.5 stones, and know that if I don't run, I'll get fat again. This is my incentive and it works pretty well. If I wasn't prone to put on weight, I don't think I'd manage to get up and get out, so OP get yourself a clear incentive! As others have said, it's also a great way to start the day - guarantee you'll feel 100% better on returning than leaving.
Go to bed wearing your running outfit, then when you wake up you can leap from the bed, straight into a sprint for the front door.
guarantee you'll feel 100% better on returning than leaving.
yep - had started a routine this summer - i fortunate that my commute to work is a 7 min walk, and that we have some nice riding within minutes..
so, took to getting up when the the alarm went off for MrsMM and going for a ride 3 days a week.
Stopped when we got the puppy but, now were into a morning routine again I plan to start again though, once I shake this cold / whilst it is still light at 7am...
nothing better than bright mornings, coming home coated in fresh sheep s*it.... hot shower. brekkie. stroll to work.. ๐
Ok, thanks for all the replies. As you can tell from this post I am great at staying up. Not so good at getting up super early. Plan is to start next week.I'll either fail or pass.I've sometimes gone for day rides and then late evening rides, so getting up before schedule will certainly be a challenge.I'll try and repost next week some time or maybe a week after (by the time i've re-formatted my bodyclock)I can also get up really early, and still be up at late times, although this is not maintainable for too long.
oh, and if it helps.. you can get some impressive views of dogging and naked running people if you get up early enough.,
breakfast will be a spinach and protein shake smoothy. mmm
lol. all the sensible posters are probably tucked up by now anyway.
samuri, lavender oil baths / or on pillow go can great prep for an early nights sleep.
I'm single so I don't have a girlfreind to get in the way of my morning routine. Got a forearm like Popeye at the moment.
My early morning motivation took a knock this week, my 5.30am commute was a rather chilly 30F. Brrr.
