I bought an E Gravel bike a couple of years ago in a Giant Bikes sale. Almost all of my riding is now done on that bike. I gave my son my normal MTB and he is having fun with it and wants me to join in so I have been thinking about an E-MTB.
Going off what I did previously I have been looking and found some Giants in a sale, with big discounts. Specifically the Trance X Advanced https://www.giant-bicycles.com/gb/trance-x-advanced-eplus-elite-2-2024
I know it is an older model, but it seems to tick all my boxes without being too extreme. Does anyone have any experience of these (good or bad), or can think of a good reason not to buy one?
For rides with your son as described it sounds pretty good? Note I have no direct experience of this bike. You can always get the range extender for bigger rides…
The main negative would be, if you wanted to tow your son, you would probably want a bike with a much bigger battery and depending how fussy and or heavy you are, you may want an upgraded shock…
I have two friends that ride the Liv equivalent of that bike. They get on well with them. They're not keeping up with a Bosch or Avinox powered bike, but fine for what you describe.
I would not buy anything with Giant written on it because of their seemingly appalling warranty which was highlighted on here. Then someone from Giant UK popped up and reinforced their very strict policy of if you’ve worked on the bike at all yourself the warranty is void.
Winstanleys have the Whyte Kado S 600 for £3k. They also have a variant of this Giant for a fair bit less: https://winstanleysbikes.co.uk/catalog/product/view/id/625161/s/giant-trance-x-advanced-e-elite-3-2024-electric-bike/category/12530/

I've just became the owner of a Whyte Kado RS last week and had the maiden ride on Saturday.
Can't recommend the kado platform enough, they're really onto something with the low center of gravity stuff they're doing especially on full fat eebs, can really feel the difference
Spent the entire 30km ride which was supposed to be just a feeler ride, grinning from ear to ear
I have a Trance E Advanced, it's a great trail ebike, light for a full power ebike with great geometry (though I have added an angleset to slacken it out a bit). At that price it's a bargain
