[Closed] DX P7 torch, bypassing the switch?

I've had my P7 for a few years now and am happy with pretty much everything about it other than the switch. Seems pretty flimsy and often the light will flicker/cut out until the switch is fiddled with a bit. Just wondering if anyone has successfully bypassed the switch so that the torch is always on in full power mode when the end cap is screwed on? I dont go on long night rides so battery life isnt crucial, just want something more reliable as lights cutting out halfway down a fast descent isn't ideal.

If not then can anyone suggest something of a similar price/performance?

Have you had a look inside and checked it's all put together tightly?

I have an old P7 which was playing up - I took the switch apart, gave it all a clean, reassembled and made sure it was all screwed in tightly. Works perfectly now.

Not sure what your exact model is like but generally the switch is pretty embedded. It doesn't really switch it, instead it controls some electronics that control the switching. That might make it a bit hard to bypass. You might be able to solder a different switch the terminals and thread some wires out. As above I'd open it up and have a fiddle. Often the lock ring comes loose and you can tighten it by pushing it round with a small screwdriver in one of the holes.

Aye, also the plastic bit that you can see when you take the endcap off may not actually be the switch- some have a threaded plastic cap on top of the threaded switch, so no amount of tightening that helps, you need to remove it then tighten the switch. Very simple to do though.

Tighten up the switch and the pill (the bit the led is screwed to), and then decide if something is broken.

Cheers, I think the switch was a bit loose, just gave it a tighten and didn't get any flickering for the whole ride today which is an improvement!

Still interested in a 2nd torch for my head if there's anything good that can be had for cheap?
