Hi

gf uses mtb shoes without cleats (ie chunky, stiff sole), on what I call cage type pedals (ie not spd, not flats with pins) but with a toothed 'oblong' cage around the pedal .

I've used spds for about last 20 years so haven't got a clue about grip, would her shoes grip ok on the pin type or would a cage be better (gentle xc only, in all weathers).

Thanks

pin/screw type plat pedals are way better than cages.

Flats with pins +1

Might also be worth having a look at changing shoes, I'm not going to start up the whole "what shoes" thing but consider something with a flat / non chunky sole.

I change pedals for around a quarter of customers ... mainly cage type things to 'real' flats. The benefits are often massive and always very obvious to them.
