[Closed] dt swiss 15mm fork question.....

Could you take a picture my forks did not have any loose bits

as they came like this, in the bottom of the bike box, i wouldnt normally ask, but it seems stupid, so i'm guessing they werent bonded in correctly and just fell out during transportation.

I don't have DT forks but I'd agree that doesn't seem right.

yeah, i think an email today to canyon, then phone call in the morning.

mine are bonded in so the lips are in the right place to locate the hub, wouldn't ride that fella!

emailed Canyon with the picture attached - being a Sunday i got a nice automated 'we'll answer asap' email back - and will follow up with a phone call tomorrow afternoon. I'm hopeing that as its a fork problem i can send them to Madison or Pace rather than back to Germany....

as above mine were bonded in, cannot understand how they could have both fallen out? They must of sent it like that surely ...

Interesting my Canyon 29er has been held up because a component didn't pass QC and they are waiting for a replacement before they ship. Wonder if it's the same thing?

could be - the non threaded one was loose in the box and the threaded one you could spin in the fork and remove by hand from the off..

There is no reason to bond these parts in as they are held in place by the axle.

so i phoned them, explained it over the phone and got a definate ' no that doesnt sound right...' - i've had to email them again with another photo though (as the original didnt get forwarded from germany i'm guessing).....

Will hear tomorrow what they think.

I've also emailed and phoned Pace.

Mine are bonded as well, no movement...

so after a couple of phone calls and follow up emails (with better photos) they are going of to Pace for warrenty repair tomorrow. Just took a bit of expalining over the phone... The guys at Canyon UK have been most helpful, just need to wait and see what happens at Pace now -- hoping that they'll just glue them back in place (or replace with new as the collets have traces of glue on them) and send me the forks back.

monkeyboyjc - Have you got you forks back yet? I think I have a problem with the damping on mine, and will have to send them off - they keep packing down no matter what settings I try.
I was enjoying the Canyon so much, I don't want to be without it for long.

Oh my, front bolt is now rotating both the bushes in the fork legs. Email to Canyon time...

The fork doesn't appear to be holding up well though. I still waiting for Canyon to tell me where to send it (despite me knowing it will be Pace).

ok - just back from a week holiday in cornwall - not got the fork back from Pace yet (hopefully this week), i phoned them a week or so ago - they had to order in new collets for the fork from DT Swiss as mine still have glue resude on them....

I did get the postage cost back from Canyon, they offered to pay £15 but i couldnt get postage with insurance for that - and they paid me back the full £21.70...

Does sounds like DT Swiss/Canyon should do a recall to me.....

For those that are having problems, give Canyon Uk a call/email, they are really helpful - sounds like they are gonna get quite a few calls though....

Wonder why they couldn't just remove the glue reside on the existing inserts..?!

As a side note, I've got some EXM150's and the inserts for the 15mm are screwed in.

Cullen was fairly helpful when my bike was originally delayed due to a qc problem. He is pretty busy so getting through on the phone can be slow but if it's a complex issue it can be easier than email. I gave the forks another go today on the tow path but they sagged 80% again even though they appear fine when pushing the fork down before the ride. They are all packed up now waiting for the details to send back next week.

Just gave pace a ring - still waiting on new collets from DT Swiss.....

Its been three weeks and i've got the forks back this morning - apparently the delay was because they had to 'order some parts in' which i assumed was new collets...... but they just glued the old collets back in so unless it was the glue they had to order in i dont know what the delay was for....

Just wanted to share with you that I also bought the Grand Canyon 29 AL 8.9 with the DT Swiss XMM 100 single shot and the bushings have also gone loose in the way that they rotate when i tightening the axle. They do not come entirely loose so that they fall out but that they rotate is not good...

I am a mechanical engineer myself with special knowledge on interface cracks and know something about where to use and where not to use adhesive bonds/glue assembly. This is in every way a bad solution! The should only be used in low shear stress areas. This is a high stress area - high shear stress when tightening the axle and high normal stress during riding with large cyclic loads.

The glue is only used to keep the right angular position of the bushings and that is why i think there will not be a problem during riding as long as they have the right position after tightening the axle.

Since there is some you that have the same bike I was wondering if you also have a problem with play and large noises from the headset?

Other then that I love the bike! 🙂

BTW is it still holding up after the put them back in?

Pace still have my forks after they stopped working properly. Going to chase them tomorrow as I've heard nothing. At least I'm not missing riding it on the dry, dusty trails.

I have Canyon 29er 8.9. A couple of weeks ago strange cracking noise appeared from the headset. Regreased everything, but no luck. I saw some posts that washers come lose and guys have difficulties to tighten the axle. Somtimes that ends to the noises from the axel. But in my case they come from the headset/fork crown. As headset was cleaned and regreased the only thing left is the fork, which looks like could be a problem. Shame on DT Swiss.

Can anyone managed to solve the noises from the headset? Anyway I should send the bike back to Canyon. Great bike otherwise...

Have just taken my DT Swiss XMM 100 forks out for the first time and have the same issues as mentioned above.

Seeing as the solution just appears to be bonding them back in place, and I'm racing Kielder on Saturday, I'll just do it myself.

Will superglue do the job or should I use something a bit more specialist?

others have just used a two part epoxy like arldite, cant recomend it myself though.

I would give Pace a call and see what they recommend. They will, most likely, be using something UK-sourced (as they do instead of using Supergliss for lubing the lowers), which you'll probably be able to get too.

Cheers. Spoke to an engineer friend today and he recommended Araldite, so I'll head down that route.
