After a particulalry boggey and mucky ride last night in Lakes I was wondering you fit a rear mudguard to a full sus bike with a dropper post?

You can, I asked the same question when I got mine. Search for a thread about it on here somewhere.

In the end I used my exisiting crud catcher one but fitting the bracket upside down, re-drilling the hole and screwing the mud guard back on. That way it mounts on the bit of the post that isnt the uppy/downy bit close to the seat clamp. But still clear the back tyre when I compress the suspension.

There are two versions of crud catcher, one has a longer bracket than the other.

Mine now points upward and allows the mud guard to be fitted a few inches higher up.

No different to fitting it to a normal post tbh! Unless of course you had to fit it high to allow for wheel movement, but that doesn't work very well with a standard post either.

THe benefit o'course is that you can mount it as low as possible without it being in the way of dropping the post.

It's different to a normal post as you have to have the clamp very low and on a lot of FS designs the rear wheel will foul it when deep into it's travel. I ended up buying one of the zefal things that fits on the rear stays but not fitted it yet...

Mine is sort of like the last picture in that thread, but I just mounted the bracket upside down and didnt use a third bit of metal.

Managed to fit a CrudCatcher fine to my ID5 just below the collar on the post. stope the mud wit hno interference on the wheel.

Sure, but the flipside of that is that by the time you mount the mudguard that high, it's generally not very effective and can get more in the way when you're riding. I wouldn't want to have a mudguard mounted more than halfway up my seatpost regardless of whether it's a dropper or not tbh.
