Checking last night when swapping to a 2x10 from a 1x10 due to a long event with big hills, noticed my 32T has a few teeth missing chunks, which suprised me as it's only 6-8 weeks old on a Deore crankset.
So would like a new 32T and would like some ideas please. Running on a Deore crankset, HG-X chain and associated casette.
Deore last ages in my experience. Are you sure the missing bits aren't just their normal profile? Shimano rings have what looks like bits missing to aid shifting. Any pics of your rings you can post?
Agreed, i noticed that some of them were deliberate as you can see the teeth have an even profile at the shortened parts.
No pics unless i take it all apart which i can't be bothered doing today i'm afraid. Sorry.
Fair enough... Could they have taken a hit whilst running 1x10? If so it would probably happen to any ring, and I'd just replace with another Deore. Although the superstar rings look good value if you want a colour/alu instead.
Very possible mate yes. I'm running the 2x10 with an E13 bash so not worried about impacts on this one.
I take it this will work on my HG-X 10 speed setup lads ?
Yes it will.
thanks chap.
It will if you are just running a single ring, but the impression I got was that you want a 32t ring to use as part of a double and bash? The Renthal ring you linked to doesn't have shifting pins or profiled teeth for shifting.
That's correct mate. For at least part of it's life it would be on a Double/bash setup.
I'm thinking maybe an SLX at £20 in CRC may be the simplest solution ?
Yep!
the SLX rings are nice but may not quite fit on a Deore set up if it was originally a 9 speed one so you will have to do a bit of filing. If its the 10 speed one then I think the middle is pretty much the same as the SLX one.
see here:
it was the 10 speed mate. (and still is)
Nothing a file won't sort out!
That's perfect then. Just grab a 10 speed Deore middle or SLX middle (they are steel with black plastic bits).
Sorry yes for 1x with the renthal. I have an unramped with bash for 1x and TA rings for my 2x10 set up. All on a triple chainset. Mind you I've used 9speed ramped xt with my 1x10 no probs!
