Clueless really. I'm guessing its the same (similar) frame etc?
Just after something comfy, lightish and reliable for a return back to the road.
How much are you going to spend?
Choose a groupset.
Choose a frame material.
Look what is available in the shops, decide which one you like best, buy.
Is be looking at Shimano 105 on alloy or carbon, and be thinking about £1500.+/-250.
Is also be looking at big brands like Giant, Trek, Specialized, Scott as well as Ribble and Dolan.
Cookie cutter frames, just make sure it fits and you like the colour.
Cookie Cutter- is that the Chinese manufacturer?
I'd rather avoid the big names Crikey if it keeps costs down avoiding 'brands'(?)
Hora, I'd be looking at the genesis equilibrium 00. There is a brand new 58 on ebay for 700 at the minute. Lovely steel frame and a reet bargain at that price. Please buy it before I do.
The big names tend to have better economies of scale and aim at particular price points, their warranties are also good, at least on paper.
Shop around tho.
Above all else, you need to buy a bike you love. Yesterdays weather in Manchester should be in your mind; choose a bike that you'd ride in that because you love it, not because it costs a bit less.
The Boardman bikes at Halfords are worth a look, they also have a full carbon carbon Carrera for under £1000.
(was in there the other day)
That Genesis looks like it'd be a good and trusty commuter for coming home in the wee hours after a shift Bregante 😉
I bet if you emailed them with a cheeky offer they may say yes as SRP isn't too far north of their ebay price- its worth asking!
I'm after something nippy-ish. I had a spin on AndyH's Ribble but he had some fancy wheels on his.
I've already got a croix de fer for that mate. 8)
Wiggle are selling off some 2011 bikes at big discounts.

Bregante - what do you think of the Croix de Fer? I might be in the market for a new (to me) commuter in the next few months and was eyeing that up. My first thought was a Cotic X but they discontinued the 52cm which I'd need.
Love it. not light but soo comfy. Done a few on/off road 50 odd milers on it in the last month and its superb. Only thing I'd change are the heavy wheels but that won't hence the desire for an out and out roadie/sportive bike to add to it!
Dolan and Ribble both Dedaccai frames or were 2/3 years ago. Made in same factory andstickered up by each. So same frame. You are paying for name on downtube so get cheapest. Or the nice steel Genesis ^^ there.
Get a dolan Ares SL with a 56cm top tube, then sell it to me once you're bored.
Pauls cycles were selling caad10 105's for about £1000, dont know if they still are but its worth a look.

+1 Bargain tastic (as a CAAD frame owner)
The CAAD10 frames are ~1150g, at arround the £1000 mark (frame only) you'd be looking at 1200g for a carbon frame. Rose and Canyon both sell their alumninium framesets for ~£600 which are similar quality. The compete bikes are even better value, both do full Di2 equiped bikes for <£2k (even merlin sell the groupset at £1500), and kysrium wheels (lower end equips son the canyon, but the seatpost is supposedly good) and WCS finishing kit and a light frame for £2k is a bargain*.
*as much as any £2k bike ever could be described thus.
