Damn.... Like an idiot I pressed it in with my headset press, which I think will have pressed on the inner race. What does the proper CK adapter press onto? (I'm pretty certain the bearings stay installed)
Anyway, it still feels as smooth as before, and it did slip in nicely so didn't have to put lots of force into it.
Are my bearings ruined? I guess I'll find out after a few rides!
personally I've installed a load of CK headsets with a standard press & never had a problem. I can see how the lip could get damaged, but it never has in my experience.
What part are you referring to as the lip? I guess you normally turn the conical step down piece round and press only on the outer most part of the cup? I used my press "normally" and I'm pretty certain the conical step down piece ended up pressing on the inner bearing race.
by "lip" I mean the slightly raised bit on the inside of the inner race. I've always just used the headset press in standard mode. Maybe I've just been lucky ๐
thanks. everything seems ok with my installation, so I guess time will tell!
