Just bought a new bar and only just realised it has internal routing for a portion of the bar (it's a flat-top/aero style road bar).

How hard is it to disconnect the hydraulic hoses at the shifter-end and reroute, then reconnect? Will I need a bleed kit, or can is there a way to avoid bleeding afterwards? Or will I need to disconnect, re-route, reconnect, then bleed? Will the banjo usually fit through the holes on the bar for internal routing? Would it actually be easier to disconnect at the caliper end?

You'll probably need to rebleed and fit at least some new fittings. Depending on bar it can vary from ten minutes to several days fishing around inside with an old spoke bent into a hook shape while continually swearing under your breath and resisting the urge to throw the whole lot into a hedge. Good luck.

Disconnect the hose from the calliper end and feed through, you will need to bleed and fit a new barb, easy enough but read/watch the bleed process several times.

I forgot to add that you’ll need a new olive too.

Thanks both! Is a new olive/barb a necessity if I'm not cutting the hose and just disconnecting/re-routing/re-connecting at the caliper end?

I use a reverb hose routing tool https://www.bikeinn.com/cykling/rockshox-stealth-barb-connector-reverb/136091602/p

Disconnect at the calliper (with calliper input angled to not drip fluid).

Take out barb or cut off 10mm of hose and screw in routing tool to act as a stop and an attachment point

Tie thread to the routing tool and pull thread through any internal routing that is currently used.

Put the hose through the new bar.

Use the thread to pull the tool+hose back to the calliper

Unthread tool

New barb and olive

Connnect

Last time I did this I could have got away with not bleeding but did a quick bleed anyway.

Almost ready to give this a bash!

Bleed kit purchased
New barbs/olives purchased
cheapo hose cutter ordered.

Does the reverb barb sit flush with the hose? There doesn't seem to be too much space for anything except the hose in the frame/fork holes. Not many places with stock of the barb but ordered a couple from amazon for £2.57 each (due 23rd Nov). Think it's worth the wait given I won't have to do a full emptying of the fluid, plus the bonus of easy re-threading!!
