Last night I decided to change the bearings on my 5 before going away for the week for work.
Turned out one of the cinch bolts was stripped - no idea how, it's the first time anyone's tried to change the bearings! So after an hour of going through my options I finally got it out, only to find that I needn't have bothered since both bearings are 100% stuck on. So I moved onto the next bike. I thought I'd quickly bleed the brakes now I have a lovely Hope bleed kit. Well that went really badly, stared up by attaching the kit to the front lever and the rear caliper, then there was a blockage in the nipple somewhere so the air pressure blew the piston out and spurted brake fluid everywhere...
Then when I got in I remembered I'd left some chilli simmering, and it was burned to a crisp.
are you Cytec trained?
One of lifes moments when you wish you had a 'back' button
Fork cartridge died whilst removing then snapped top cap bolt trying out the torque wrench
I wish I'd had a pause button, I'd have spent the necessary hours in the garage fixing it all, packed for my work week and spent a nice evening with the wife.
Re fork cartridges - I used to have a set of Pace RC38s, the last with the silver coloured crown and double brace. I lost damping, I concluded that the damper rod had become disconnected from the piston rod. Ok, so following the insstructions I removed the circlip and pressed down on the fork. Problem is that these instructions assume that the top of the damper is still connected to the rest of the fork, via the damper rod. I was leaning over it when it went POP, half the damper shot across the room 100cc of damper oil went all over my face, the ceiling and the rest of the room.
