[Closed] Di2 kit on non-Di2 frames... and the other way round too

Tyred Jr is going to need a new bike for road racing and CX soon (he's not getting one of each) and until the UCI and BC tell us discs are OK for road/crits, there isn't that much to choose from in small sizes.

I have found something though that ticks all the boxes, except... its got Ultegra Di2 on it. Not keen on him having that, but wondered if I could swap the electric bits for the mechanical bits on my road race bike.

My frame's not Di2-specific but does have internal routing, so I figure the main issue there is finding somewhere to house the battery.

On the Di2 frame, should I just be able to route the mechanical cables through the internal routing and it should just work?

Have I missed something glaringly obvious or does this sound like a reasonable plan? Haven't examined a Di2-specific frame up close so not sure what the important differences are.

Cheers!

Some frames interchange, some lack cable stops so won't work simply, if at all, when going mechanical. Depends on the frame.

Are cable stops needed if both frames have internal cable routing? This is what I can't quite get my head round.

Depends... I've had 2 internally routed mechanical framesets, the internal part of the cable is inner only, outer casings stop where they enter the frame and they won't take di2 without modification. Likewise a di2 frame might not have the stops. Some have interchangeable inserts so you can swap.
