That's it really, is there anywhere worth riding on NW Dartmoor. I'm pretty familiar with the usual routes around Buckfastleigh, Princetown, Lustleigh, Teign Gorge, Grimspound etc but not north of Postbrige / South of Oakhampton.

I know that area isnt blessed with bridleways and is pretty remote, but is there a reason to try riding there instead for a change?

There is stuff out of Oakehampton but it's pretty dull compared with the wonderous east. Just about worth it for a change or for the novelty of getting up to 2000 ft in southern England.
Truth be told, whenever I go up there, I usually end up wishing I'd stayed down here.

sounds like the good stuff north of Postbrige is called Exmoor in that case.

There is stuff around Cosdon Hill too that's supposed to be OK.
I hate Exmoor though so I think I'd be happier around Oakehampton.

Where is this Oakehampton that you speak of?

I've done a few rides on the Okehampton side of the moor, they're good if you like big horizons but not so good for technical singletrack. It makes a change...

If you want some hard work to get you to some views, ending with a very fast blast back to the car on a rocky, jumpy double track - consider parking up just above the Camp and heading for Yes Tor / High Willhays.

If the worse comes to the worse, you can get some miles in on the army tracks and have an explore.

PS - LOL at Hamishthecat, nice one Marcus - pedant 😆

Oh yeah - here's one of the views you can get (can;t guarantee my lovely bike will be there though!)

Thank god somebody corrected the spelling, the town of my birth deserves better.

Have to say far better heading to exmoor
miles of great riding to be had.
Meantime trails are dry heading off to
the cleave today on the trusty romic
shocked 5 spot.

Don't know about riding but did plenty of walking on the north moor during school days; and agree about the 'big views'. Superb sunset from the tor closest to the camp road (West Mill Tor?), the one before Yes anyway. Was driving to Falmouth last night but took a detour and sat on a lump of granite for a while.
