...on a bike. Will be up near there on Monday (22nd) evening, and thought about bringing the bike up. Anyone willing to do a couple of hour loop near by - or is it there not much to be had??

You won't find anything technical round Darlington but there are lots of bridleways in the area and loads of cycle paths around the town.

What sort of a ride are you looking for?

If you want something more challenging you'll need to head south to the Dales, West to Hamsterley, North West to Edmundbyers or East to North York Moors.

something a little interesting away from the towns. I don't mind a half hour drive either way - but be needing a guide i will... failing that i will sit in the hotel bar..

Hamsterley is about 25 mins from Darlington

There aren't that many 'interesting' trails around Darlington itself but it depends on whether interesting is beautiful countryside or techy singletrack really.

What bike are you riding?

well since the demise of the Hustler it's the Gspot, i've been lugging it around for about 2 weeks now, painful on climbs but bareable. Don't let that fool you, i'm happy to spin the legs for a relaxed country bimble.. JUst had a look at the Hamsterley Trailblazers website - is the forest all permit only?

You pay for parking in the forest at Hamsterley but there is no charge to ride the trails (some people park outside the forest to avoid the small charge).

There are some pretty good newish sections at Hamsterley that you'd hoon down on a G-Spot. A linked route of the black and best parts of the red is good fun.

I'll not be able to guide you there at the moment as my knee is still struggling on descents after making a mess of it at Glentress last year.

I had a night in Darlington a few years back - I seem to remember it seemed fairly easy to find a [s]friend[/s] bike for the night! ๐Ÿ˜€
